How long?

_ by Neill Staurland

Dear Sir / Madam,

This week the National League for Democracy (NLD) marks the 18th anniversary of the foundation of the party.

Aung San Suu Kyi remains in house-arrest in Rangoon, while many political prisoners are tortured and abused in prisons in Burma.

Just recently three 88 Generation student leaders have been detained.

The NLD has again called on the SPDC to hold genuine dialogues in order to solve the general problems of Burma.

How long will the military junta (SPDC) continue to ignore the calls for a change from both within and outside of Burma?

Many serious reports up through the years have documented the grave situation in Burma.

Abuse of human-rights continues in a large scale.

How long will the UN diplomats continue to "discuss and monitor the situation" in Burma before we see a change in this country?

How many more people must suffer and die before WE react?

How long is the international community willing to sit back and let this happen?

WE, the people living in democratic countries worldwide must continue to support the citizens of Burma in their legitimate struggle for respect for human-rights and democracy.

I strongly urge YOU to support the NLD and the people of Burma.

Yours sincerely,

Neill Staurland,

Norway.
