“TIME TO FINISH WHAT WE STARTED”

 .

_ By Terry Evans

Ko Min Ko Naing, Ko Htay Kyawe and Ko Ko Gyi have been taken in by the special branch SB of Rangoon Division for "a chat".

They have already served long imprisonment terms for their active participation in the pro-democracy movement during and after 1988, and remain committed to a national peace and reconciliation process. Their detentions are just another sign that the junta has no interest in the democratization of Burma.

The arrests of three such prominent former student leaders by the illegal junta is a clear indication of the direction in which the generals intend to steer Burma in the lead up to the forthcoming national convention. Silencing the opposition is now the name of the game. Locking up Daw Suu and other political detainees until the referendum is over is just another cynical move by the unelected military junta currently lead by Than Shwe.

Once again it looks like the future of Burma will by influenced by student leaders, both past and present. This is the time to fight back. As I have repeatedly stated, the people of Burma must be ready to fight for the freedom of Burma before the end of this year, which is also the target year for the military regime to complete its most recent political masquerade.

This is the time for us to finish what was started on 8-8-88.
