Daung Man
The drip drip of sunlight off the shimmering pagodas Runs like milk into a stream of enchanted silence From here, trickling down the plains from Ava A deep golden river of sun Sliding down country A sheet of silk from a basket And cascades into the fitting bath Of a magnificent peacock
A battered bird Resting tired wings after a turbulent fight A golden peacock, flecks of blood spilt across its plumes Battered never broken, resting not defeated in the pool of 50 000 nourishing minds It soaks in the strength of generations passed The strength of those whose blood adorns it, then The great bird rises; rested, strong Parts its mighty wings and Looks up to the free sky Raising its legs in a fighting stance And waits for the fight anew
_ by Nyein Chan (Dedicated to Hnin Wint Wint Soe, May Su Su Win, Ne Linn Kyaw, Thet Oo, Win Min Htut, Maung Maung Oo, and Zeya Aung) Comments: Feraya said _ Thanks for the beautiful and touching poem. Nyi Nge Thit said _ You should post the original poem along with this one. As it is the last poem circulated in Burma which can shake the Generals' hearts.
