Letters to Editor

Dear Editor,

After reading Win Lei’s letter last week, I’d like to tell you how I felt about RIT (Rangoon Institute of Technology).

I am an ex-RITian. I was in Yangon last month and visited RIT compound. I walked around the corridors inside the building 1. I've seen the old lab equipments, civil structural and soil labs, older than about 3 times the age of Win Lei, through glass windows from the corridor which is cracked and guarded with rusted fences.

Walking around the corridor surrounding the convocation path square, where new students and strangers who walked through it unknowingly, were used to be applauded with claps, whistles, blessing and noises, reminds me of the pride in those good old days of RIT students.

Then, I look for the place of cartoon box; where is it? The authorities should keep it in a museum, I suppose!

The crowds of students standing, discussing, laughing all around the corridors of every floor of the building 1, and the students rushing out from the theatre halls; the next generations to carry out the nation's developments!  Where are they now?

The lovely scenes of the students greeting with respect to the teachers around the corridors, etc.... Where are they now?

I’ve seen civil thesis library room and the books are still kept in order, collecting dust. Remembrance to the work of former RITians. There are bushes growing heavily on the roof of the building 1. The place once the nation's architects were born is now being abandoned.

Feeling tight in my heart on the way back from "SWE DAW YEIK", I realized that we engineers have been not only being insulted but thrown into the side drain.

I wished ......May we build our nation with the rules and regulations, engineering professions and ethics, blood and sweat for the future generations of our country......

Wish no more bloodshed of young students....

Hope the resource rich motherland is not exploited.....

For the future generations….And…….Keep up the Pride of RITians.

Dear Editor,

Just read news about Burma. The Snr General Than Shwe is going to skip the ASEAN meeting 'AGAIN'. He will never go to the any summit as he doesn't want to meet anyone who would ask him, ' When are you going to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi?’

One has to understand his mental mind set. As soon as Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested in 2003, he promoted Khin Nyut as Prime Minister as he wanted Khin Nyut to present Burma as head of the government in ASEAN meetings. He has ever since been trying to avoid any international summit/meeting which would give him any chance of embarrassment or questions which he can't answer. ASEAN leaders have to realize this senior general is living in a dream of gripping on to the power at any cost till he dies. This military was bred with believe that the soldiers are above the law and order and have the destined right to govern.

They also are paranoid that any dialogue is a mean of weakness and will eventually lead to loss of power and disintegration of national unity. So they will hold on to the power while enjoying all the wealth that is brought to them by abuse of the power.

Right! General Than Shwe and groups have purposedly suppressed our nation’s intellectuals. It means not only engineers but also all civilians and intellectuals. As Zarganar said, he has no head and led country for 18 years, and he does not want to see people with heads.

You all guys are very proud. You think what he looks like. It is wrong. If you think you can do better than SPDC, show your ability. Your side doesn’t know how to control Burma.

I feel the same with you. Now, where is the GTI, RIT, RASU....... All is gone. They destroyed everything, the whole education system and killed innocent students on the streets, prisons, and yekyi-ai labour camps. Some students were killed after release from prisons and custody. Because of their inhuman torture methods. There is no one free who tell the truth to the SPDC, no safety in their houses, their lands, and their country for half century. What kind of LEADERS they are... What kind of GOVERMENT they are...
