affirmation of the Shan Independence by the People’s Representatives
of the 54 ( fifty four) Se-vieng or Townships of our country at the Tai
Supreme Council Conference held in February 2006. The People assert this right
to independence by the 1947 Treaty of Panglong that was also signed by General
Aung San for the Burmese Government, and by the 1948 Constitution of the Union
of Burma.
-
The Shan Government has made good progress in
consolidating its authority, national unity and in asserting its sovereignity.
-
We have formed the Tai/Shan Human Rights Council to
gather and assess the information on human right abuses and criminal
activities committed by the Burmese regime. We are also compiling a dossier to
present it to the UN Human Rights Council, the International Criminal Court (ICC)
at
The Hague and the UN Security Council and other NGOs.
-
We are firmly committed to the total eradication of
drugs from Tai/Shan soil. All drug related activities shall be a capital
offence. We invite all like-minded countries to work with the Shan
Government.
-
We are strongly opposed to all forms of terrorism
including that sponsored by the terrorist Burmese military dictatorship.
-
We demand the unconditional and immediate withdrawal of
all Burmese foreign occupation troops, police forces, collateral organizations
and their collaborators from the
Shan State.
We also seek the help of all friendly nations to help evacuate all foreign
invaders from our sovereign Tai/ Shan soil.
-
We demand the immediate release of all political
prisoners and prisoners of conscience including :
Hkun Tun
Oo
Sir Hten
Sai
Nyunt Lwin ( Sai Noot), Sai Hla Aung, Sai Tha Oo,
Sai
Than Myint and two others.
8. We
also demand all Shan Prisoners of War to be treated in accordance with
the Geneva Convention. These include Col. Khun Kyaw and all his 31 men of the
SSA 241 Battalion. We also appeal for international help to condemn the death
sentences of the Shan POWs meted out by the military regime for the alleged
crimes which were not committed by Col. Khun Kyaw and his 31 men.
-
We will continue to provide legal assistance in
compliance with the
International Labour Organization to Tai/Shan refugees who seek employment in
Thailand in addition to their care for their social welfare and cultural
developments.
