CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL UNITY
One of he ugliest and psychologically limiting, damaging and harmful acts of evil against humanity is hatred towards one another, especially racial and religious discrimination. Racial hatred means we hate others because they are different from us racially, and we fear what we cannot understand or accept, due to our ignorance and our overly inflated racial pride. Nelson Mandela fought against white racism as well as black racism because he believes racism is evil and a hindrance to democracy, and a hindrance to freedom and justice. In June 1964, he said: “ During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people, I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.” The biggest revenge we have as peoples of Burma to fight against the brutality and oppression of the Military Regime is the courage to be and act the opposite way to the Military Regime. Instead of manipulating racial hatred, chaos, confusion and fear, we need to encourage and promote compassion, unity, wisdom, clarity and courage. Hatred makes us blind. Compassion makes us see things clearly. We need courage to see beyond the darkness. We need to let go of the darkness and let the light shine through. We need to let go of all the elements that harm us, ALL our country folk and our country. We need to promote elements that promote the well-being of Burma and all her peoples. When we have concern for the well-being of others, we ourselves spiritually and psychologically benefit from it, because it activates our positive energy, so we create positive results. All the happiness there is in this world Arises from wishing others to be happy, And all the suffering there is in this world, Arises from wishing oneself to be happy. The future of Burma is the responsibility of each and everyone of us, and we are all responsible for each other; each other’s welfare and happiness. Therefore, it goes without saying that our most powerful weapon against the Military Regime is psychological and spiritual unity. Nelson Mandela, when in 1994, he became South Africa’s first black president said, "I do hereby swear to be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and do solemnly and sincerely promise to promote that which will advance and to oppose all that may harm the republic... and to devote myself to the well-being of the republic and all its people." “Never, never again will this beautiful land experience the oppression of one by another.” More than 100,000 South African men, women and children of all races sang and danced with joy. We need psychological unity, and we need to start beating our drums together, loudly, to the same beautiful and caring rhythm. “And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” _ Marianne Williamson from her book A Return to Love At his inauguration, Nelson Mandela said, "The time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. The time to build is upon us..., we enter into a covenant that we shall build the society in which all South Africans, both black and white, will be able to walk tall, without any fear in their hearts, assured of their inalienable right to human dignity - a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world." I for one with all my heart wish that we will all do our utmost to fight together, for our future that is free from fear and oppression of the Military dictatorship, by applying the civil disobedience of psychological unity.
