London Amnesty Group Discussed Atrocities in Burma
On 11 May 2006 Thursday, Richmond London Amnesty Group had a discussion on history of Burma, general situation in Burma under the current military regime, the suffering of Ethnic nationalities. Zoya Phan of Karen Women Organization explained current Human Rights situations in Burma and related it to current crisis of internally displaced people, IDPs, in Karen State of Eastern Burma. She also told them about refugees situation in Thailand. The aims of the talk are: _ To raise the awareness of Burma’s plight and help keeping the level of hope alive and stronger in the struggle for FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, Human Rights and Peace. _ Calling for international communities to try to help with Humanitarian aid to IDPs. _ To stop funding military regime through investment, and put more political pressure on the regime to make it participate in meaningful political dialogue. And calling for Total company to pull out of Burma. _ Calling for UN Security Council to take effective action on Burma urgently.
