Depayin Massacre Protests in London
Burmese Democratic Movement Association UK (BDMA-UK) staged a protest in front of SPDC regime's embassy in London, on 30.05.2006 the third anniversary of Depayin Massacre. BDMA also issued a statement: excerpts _ May 30, 2006 is 3rd Anniversary of Depeyin Massacre, SPDC’s premeditated crackdown on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD members while they were travelling in north-central Burma. In May 30, 2003 Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her motorcade was brutally ambushed by the regime and its thugs in Depeyin. Attackers used stakes, pipes and clubs to beat and kill NLD supporters. According to new evidence, over 282 people were killed in the attack by the regime. Over 200 injured and more than 150 NLD members and supporters are missing. The ambush was another bloodbath after 1988. Reports and evidence show that all level of SPDC’s officials were involved in the attack and it was a well organized conspiracy. Consequently the ambush is clearly a “crime against humanity”. Nowadays, the regime’s offensive is on innocent civilians in western and northern Karen state. Civilians have been shot bluntly and others shot as they fled. Villages have been burned down and the livelihoods of the villagers destroyed. The SPDC army has laid landmines to kill and injure any villager who dares to return. We BDMA believe that SPDC has no interest in any kind of negotiation but to cling on to the power. The SPDC is a coward regime with arms to oppress innocent civilians without arms. Therefore, we BDMA would like to call the people of Burma to fight against SPDC by any means.
