Editorial: Can UN help us?
United Nations and the Security Council can do a lot_ too many things_ for us, if its good intentions are not always derailed by greedy selfish and evil countries like China and Russia. Now UN Security Council has discussed Burma's Case for the second time, but without any binding resolution, as usual. As usual our good democratic allies, USA and EU, wants UN Security Council to go ahead with a resolution and mandate on Burma. But, as usual, China who wants to gradually make Burma its colony, like it did to Tibet fifty years ago, is making an all out effort to oppose any UN resolution urging Burmese military regime to make meaningful democratic reforms. China does not want Burma to become democratic also because it sees democracy as an infectious disease, and so it thinks that Burma's democracy fever will become contagious to its own oppressed people. And its jealousy may also play a part in China's obstruction to Burma's democratic process as it does not want to see its neighbour becoming democratic and prosperous. And it wants to have a complete monopoly in Burma's off-shore gas-fields. And Burma unfortunately has many other greedy unethical neighbours apart from China. Many Asian countries like India, Thailand and even Japan and South-Korea all want a share in Burma's gas-fields. How many thousands of ethnic people are killed by SPDC regime, they just don't care. How many girls raped by SPDC soldiers, how many political prisoners tortured to death, how ever corrupt Burmese military regime is; they are entirely not interested in such problems. They just want to take advantage on Burma's problems. As long as Burma is poor and backward, Burmese people will not be able to utilize, or even know how to utilize, Burma's natural resources, and so they will be able to buy Burma's natural resources at discount prices. And They can sell their manufactured goods to Burma at very high prices and make huge profits. And to make matters worse, Russia is trying to sell Burmese generals its old nuclear reactors and other weapon systems. As long as Burma's regime is undemocratic, Burma will continue to be a good customer of Russia's arms manufacturing business. So for all Burmese people's woes, United Nations security Council cannot do any thing for us, as long as our country is regarded as a strategic assets by evil countries like China, Russia, etc. And Burma's other greedy neighbours will also go on insisting that Burma's problems are just internal affairs that has nothing to do with United Nations Security Council. For all those evil and greedy countries, their main intention is to keep Burma undemocratic and poor as long as possible, so that they will be able to exploit Burma on and on and on for ever, for an eternity. We need to declare such evil and greedy countries as enemies of democracy and enemies of human rights. We have to name and shame them on every possible occasions. And we can stage demonstrations in front of Chinese embassies to protest its government's obstruction on Burma's democratic struggle. And we can also ask patriotic Burmese people to boycott Chinese goods. We must also make vows that when our country eventually become democratic, we'll reduce any business and diplomatic relationships with such evil and greedy countries, but try to form special relationships with our democratic friends in the democratic world. And we will definitely have to kick Chinese Naval bases out of our costal regions, and will also have to nationalize all Chinese investments in our country. If we show them that we will not tolerate their evil obstructions on UN Security Council's efforts to help our country, gradually those greedy countries will come to realization that they must reduce their collaborations with SPDC military regime. Dear Dr. Tayza, not only the Chinese, but also the Thai, Indians,
Russians, and even the West's industries, as well as the Korean, and Jap
business firms. Every damn foreign company that collaborated with the SPDC
Nazis. They need to pay compensation in billions of dollars for their
bloodthirstiness. Francisco said _ The UN should keep on pressing SPDC to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and reform a democratic nation; people have been suffering from this regime for many years. Now, l think they (UN) should even take military action as they did in Iraq . Mahar said _ What is your opinion on Ethnic nationalities in Burma where they are treated as second class citizen and political problem is being denied to solve politically? If we really want a change, all we people must express what we
want. We must be the change that we want. Otherwise, no one can help us. SPEAK
OUT, PEOPLE!!! TAKE ACTION!!! If we can't even take such little actions like these, I don't see any point asking help from other non-Burmese organizations. Don't be pissed if they don't help because we are not even helping ourselves. THINK PEOPLE!!! THINK!!! AND SPEAK OUT!!! Lois said _ So much action for Burma; seems like something ought to "give way"..... Certainly they can't hold out much longer with all the pressure against them........ Sayar Sein said _ Only people from inside can change the regime but with the help from outside. NO ONE will come unless we start ourselves, and this is what Prof. Salai Tun Than is trying to do, and now more and more people become aware of his compaign and some even trying to follow him back into Burma. And more and more people from inside are doing as he has asked them to do, staying indoor on Saturdays. No one knows what would happen on 19th June, but the clocks are tickling.......
