Academic Activists

_ Guest Editorial

As another new year rings in, the ethno- democratic forces slowly but surely realise that we need a lot of academic activists, who are sincere and full of cetena for the country and people. To be candid with the passing away of Tzao Zang Yawnghwe, lovingly known as Uncle Eugene by the people at large, there is a dearth of Burmese academic activist.

Lamentably some of the younger generations of the Burman  group, that was able to inaugurate a well known Burma organization and groom to be potential leaders of future Burma have switched sides and is now working hands in glove with the Junta. What more, they are marshalling those apologist, the self style Burma Researchers that are sitting on the fence to join their band wagon and endeavour to soften the international impact by arguing against sanctions and punitive actions. Obviously they found a common platform in the annual conferences in their former colonial power. It was here that they warmly shake the hands of the Junta’s representative soak with blood.

At least credit should be given to them that they are not ashamed of what they are doing and is much better than the hypocrites activist who pose themselves as on the ethno-democratic side but behind the back is stabbing our real cause by working with the Burmese embassy in Bangkok. A classic example is the launching a training programme under the smokescreen of a University. They were caught red handed when they refused to accept any one from the ethno democratic forces but only those who come from Burma (under the thumb of the Junta) and when a well known expatriate writer and publisher lectured, some of the trainees who are the off springs of the Junta refused to attend.

This is not surprising, as even a well known member of the umbrellas Insane Group, switch side and declared against punitive sanctions, hoping to curry favours with the Burmese military. The conclusion of all this is that most of these self style leaders and activists have lost hope and longed to have a place in the sun.

But the silent majority of the ethno democratic forces  remain true to their convictions and no matter who ever betrays will carry on the struggle to the end. Courage and stamina will pay in the long run. These self style academic activists, with no academic institutions to back them up, being not satisfied in reducing the 20,000 strong student body to 200 should be made to stop torpedoing our noble cause with their appeasement policy. Let us work more cohesively and silently in the New Year and weed out these undesirable parasites.

[The author is an academic activist himself; but as he is working for the people in a difficult and potentially dangerous places and conditions, for his safety we cannot reveal his name here.]

We are what we are , Nothing, The results of our thoughts.
What are  reality and abstractions, free will and determinism, the possibilities are there.

We all should look at the interest of our poor living inside Burma first. Mr. Bush even changed his mind and reshuffled his priority on Iraq under civil war as follow.
1. Security.
2. Economy.
3. Democracy.
We got to be carefully scrutinized at what we were watching. Each and every individual had their own interest rather than the global interest.
