The poster of Uncle Sam pointing his finger at the viewer was originally
used back in the 1940's to recruit men for US Army and the words then read,
"I want you for the Army." Many other artists have used this format to
further their own causes, including myself when I tried to motivate patients
in my clinic to lose weight.
In this article, I superimpose the heads of other "Uncles" and discuss how
the poster can work.

Uncle Ben
First is Uncle Ben Ladin. Whenever a suicide bomber kills innocent people,
there are more demonstrations against the war. This only encourages
terrorists to produce more suicide bombers, leading to more
demonstrations..... and the vicious cycle gets worse and worse. It is
tragic how anti-war demonstrators are encouraging the very killings they so
passionately abhor.

Uncle Ho
How about Ho Chi Minh dressed up like Uncle Sam? During the Vietnam War, it
was as if thousands of young Americans were obeying him to demonstrate
against their own government. "Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh, the Viet Cong is going
to win!" they chanted as they waved Viet Cong flags in campuses across
America. Such large-scale demonstrations led to defeat in Vietnam.

Uncle Than Shwe
How about in Burma? Recently, on 1 February 2007, there was a small
demonstration in front of the US Embassy in Rangoon that lasted only 10
min. The secret police tipped off the reporters and then at the appointed
time, demonstrators from Union Solidarity & Development Association (USDA)
alias Kyant Phut appeared; the police then kept the traffic lights red
while the reporters took pictures. Groups of security men were ready
nearby, and so were plainclothesmen, some of them sitting by at the local
cafes. It appeared that they were prepared to take control in case the
demonstration got out of hand. Its purpose was to condemn the US for trying
to put Burma on the UN Security Council's agenda (but opposed by Russia,
China, and S. Africa.)
Apparently, SPDC was afraid that ordinary people might join in and turn the
demonstration around to condemn the Burmese government instead, for so great
is the national anger. Political commentators said that the demo had to have
been orchestrated by the government itself because of the involvement of all
their men, and also because no demo could have taken place without their
permission. (This fact is only too well-known by the people.)
