The 2nd Community Development and Civic Empowerment program, with the blessing of the Burmese Embassy, funded by a European NGO and initiated by former Burma Fund researchers will soon kick off a three-month program at Chiang Mai University. It was designed to provide basic knowledge and skills for community development workers, NGO management and organizing grassroots level people .The trainees will learn the conceptual foundations of community development skills that are applicable in complex institutional environments. It will provide participatory and interactive classroom-based learning. Very recently, a Chiangmai University representative had come back from Rangoon, in selecting thirty trainees, including the sons and daughters of the top brass and their cronies. The participants are due to arrive on the 1st of April with a sight seeing tours for more than one week and it is learnt that lectures on core foundation courses will begin on April 9th before it recess again for Songkran, the famous water festival of Chiangmai. It is schedule to end on 22nd June with a graduation ceremony. (Confidential Source)
