Exclusive Report The Birth of a new Federalist Party (in exile)
_reported by Dr. Tayza This week we, BURMA DIGEST, got some exclusive information about the formation of a new party called Federalist Party, in exile, and under ground. It seems like a spontaneous evolution of a political group of federal democracy enthusiasts from Burma. They appear as a limited group with an apparent aim of working as an underground movement, at least for now. They even have a policy of “membership by invitation and recommendation only”. As their only visible above-ground face, they have just a small website. We got words from a confidential source about the emergence of a new federalist group, and as we probe a little bit further we got their website address. On their website, they claim that _ “We are a political party of people who believes in democracy and federalism, and we aim to build a society (in Burma) in which every people has equal rights and can enjoy human rights to the fullest extent; and people of different ethnic origins have autonomy to manage their own domestic affairs by themselves in their ethnic regions; and the rights of the people are guarded by the law; and the laws are made by people's elected legislature (states and federal) in accordance with a democratic federal constitution.” And they say that currently they are observing SPDC military regime’s moves closely, and plotting their own moves accordingly_ very much like a chess game! As the ball is in SPDC’s court at this moment, they seem to have a somewhat even-handed policy. They say that they aim to take part in the coming elections in Burma_ “If SPDC's constitution is genuinely federal democratic and if the elections they hold are really free and fair.” But they say, they will not take part in any of SPDC’s road-map plans, but in stead will go on a revolution path _ “If SPDC's constitution is not genuinely federal democratic and if the elections they hold are not really free and fair.” So it’s a wait and see game for now and that’s why, they say, they are so far restricting themselves as a UG party with limited membership. As they practice codes of secrecy, we cannot probe any further, and if you are interested you can go and see yourselves on their website http://federalistpartyburma.org/ ; there’s also a contact form on the “contact us” page. .
