Conference on China’s Bad influence in Burma

_ reported by Dr. Rannin Soe

China is a country with an economy that each year is growing with a rate of 10%. A country that wants to put itself on the map with the Olympic Games of 2008. But also a country without free trade unions, with censorship and a bad human rights record. With more and more rich inhabitants, but also more and more poor people having to make long working weeks for a nickel and a dime.

A conference was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on March 3, 2007, in which were discussed the growing problems regarding China’s role in Burma.

Speakers at the conference were _ Harn Yawnghwe (Director Euro-Burma Office) and Tom Etty (FNV International Affairs); Chaired by Jan Donkers (VPRO Radio); and sponsored by Burma CenterNetherlands.
