Rogues & Weapons of Mass Destruction

_ By Dr. Tayza

Whenever you see a policeman, a local bobby, walking about at night bearing a fire-arm, patrolling on the streets, do you feel safer or do you feel frightened?

Whenever you see crazy criminals running and roving around threatening people with fire-arms, do you feel safer or do you feel frightened?

Any law-abiding good citizens will feel safer when they know that respectable policemen with fire-arms are protecting and safeguarding the society.

But no body in the right mind will feel comfortable when insane lunatics are arming themselves with deadly weapons.

Likewise, although the US and the UK as respectable leaders of the democratic world should and must produce, maintain and upgrade their nuclear arsenals as required to protect us, rogue states like Iran, North Korea and Burma have no legitimate rights to research, produce or keep any nuclear technology, facility or weapons. It is as simple as that_ a simple truth which fanatical extremists like Ahmadinejad of Iran, Than Shwe of Burma, Kim Jon Il of North Korea and the late Saddam Hussein fail(ed) to understand, but which Gaddafi of Libya came to understanding before it’s too late for him.

When the world, the democratic world in particular, is threatened or liable to be threatened by rogue nuclear attacks, the US and the UK as leaders responsible to protect the democratic world can and must make pre-emptive strikes. A very controversial argument here is what the US President should do if intelligence information concerning the weapons capabilities of rogue regimes is not clear cut. Will he wait and see until the rogues make another 911 attack, or will he take a good precaution for the safety of his people and the people at large in the entire democratic world and pre-empt the threat even if it’s a very theoretical threat based on so called dodgy intelligence dossier? If he is faced with the dilemma of becoming a President who let his people down and let 911 attacks happen more than once during his watch, or being a President who took his country to war which later turned out to be not very cost effective; what shall a President of United States do? If US President decides to go to war in such a situation, how should a British PM say, “Yes” or “No”?

If you are a radical anti-war campaigner, and especially if a lefty, you’ll probably say “Hey, let’s wait until terrorists have bombed London Underground”.

Anyway, now North Korea has got the Bomb.

Iran is on the brink of getting it.

Another less responsible nuclear state, Pakistan, is secretly helping, or at least tolerating, Taliban operations on its soil.

And lately, Burma has completed all the necessary steps for becoming a future rogue nuclear power. Burma’s Foreign Minister Nyan Win has lately got an agreement with his Iranian counterpart to help each other’s quest for nuclear power. Hundreds of Burmese military officers who were taking nuclear technology trainings in Russia have recently finished their training and have returned home to kick start a nuclear project. In addition to these students, Russia has sent many technical advisors to Burma. We’ve got many eye-witness reports from tourists who visited Burma recently that they saw or met some Russian Technical advisors in Rangoon. And Russia is exploring and mining Uranium in Burma’s northern Kachin State. And there are numerous eye witness reports of North Korean cargo ships discharging their secret cargos under the cover of the night in Burmese harbours. Burmese people are poor, but the Generals are rich enough to buy nuclear factories from Russia and North Korea, because of the huge reserves of natural gas in offshore gas-fields under their control. And, moreover, Burma doesn’t need to import Uranium like some other rogue would-be nuclear powers. In fact, Burma has already been exporting Uranium to China in exchange for missile systems and air-force fighter-bombers.

So, if Ahmadinejad stubbornly presses ahead with his nuclear ambitions pushing President Bush towards making a pre-emptive strike, and if a pre-emptive strike actually happens we must not forget that President Bush is just duly carrying out his duties to protect us, people in the democratic world from being attacked by fanatical fundamentalists with weapons of mass destructions.

And if Than Shwe of Burma dares to go ahead with his Russian aided nuclear programs, he should keep in mind that he may eventually end up in the same fate as that of Saddam Hussein.

Maung Maung Than said _

I do not think Mr. Bush is protecting us, I mean especially for Burmese living inside. If he encourages American companies to invest in Burma for sake of poor Burmese people like the way they have invested in China, the poor Burmese at least would have sufficient food to eat. We just wanted to see the improvement of our beloved country as the very first step regardless of who run the country. Do not forget that the majority of Burmese refugees are still poor in America. Currently, seem like; the whole Burmese people living in Burma are the prisoners of DC politicians who are playing games in their congress for their own reputation. No one talk about lesson learns from the past to improve the economy of Burma. Good to copy how Singapore runs the country with dictatorship or one party system.
