STOP Damming at Gun Point
_ reported by Karen rivers Watch Currently, Salween dam is a major issue for the local people along Salween river; and the Salween River Dams project is one of the main strategies of SPDC military regime of Burma to subjugate the ethnic areas or to exploit the natural resources form the ethnic minorities living along the Salween river. Consequently, the SPDC damming operations along Salween River are resulting in various forms of human rights abuses such as increasing SPDC military camps to control the areas and enforce forced relocation, forced lobor, land confiscation; and the number of Internally Displaced People has risen sharply due to the Salween dam issue. Lately, around 500 dam impacted communities from both Thai and Burma are protesting and calling for stopping of the "Damming at the Gunpoint".
