Only the people of Burma can LIBERATE themselves

_ By Setkyar Heine

Without a shadow of a doubt and with an unequivocal conviction also, I say Burma gained its independence because of General Aung San's own and only dedication, resolve and courage to endeavour in that direction and 'demand' for Burma's liberation from the colonialist rulers.

Of course, General Aung San had the unequivocal support, cooperation and coordination of his colleagues, the likes of Mong Pang Saw Bwa Gyi and others who were also assassinated together with him.

The politicians of those days, including Mong Pang Saw Bwa Gyi, did not have 'ill intentions' on the ethnic minorities. They had only the desire to see their country BURMA and the people who live in the country free from colonialist rule.

And also, then leading figures in the country including those from the ethnic minorities have given their signatures and shown their desire to live in the country as free men via Pang Long Agreement, the historic document showing the unity and resolve of all the people in Burma to live in freedom.

Thus, Pang Long Agreement has laid the foundation for Burma's freedom. The signing of this historic document by then leading figures in the ethnic minorities on Feb.12, 1947, culminated from General Aung San's initiative, leadership, and most importantly his sincerity. They had complete faith and trust in him. They believed that he was the ONLY person in Burma, if not the world, who could free them from colonialist yoke.

Yes, he was killed by a gang of Burmese murderers led by U Saw, one time prime minister of Burma, under Colonial rule.

Nobody in his right senses and sincerity would ever DENY the fact that General Aung was INSTRUMENTAL in regaining Burma's sovereignty from colonialist rule.

Yes, he was the ARCHITECT and FOUNDER of BURMA, and don't you have any qualms about the FACT.

And also, today, General Aung San's daughter Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is sacrificing her life and limb in the cause of Burma's liberation from today's military rule in Burma. And 82% of the people of Burma are behind her.

We should be well aware of the fact that UN or anybody on this earth could not help the people of Burma other than themselves to gain their freedom from SPDC in Burma as long as China, and Russia amongst others like the ASEAN is colluding and standing tall for the SPDC today.

Only the people of Burma can LIBERATE themselves from military rule and that's it PERIOD. And that should be the ATTITUDE and MINDSET that we should embrace in word and deed.

Dear Hein, I'd like to right you about the figure that you say 82% of the people of Burma are behind her. May be it can be more or it can be less. Though I believe the percentage could be higher, but you cannot be sure. I guess that you take that figure from the last election result of the NLD's winning 82 percent seats at the parliament; that is 382 out of 485 representatives. If my figures are not exactly right, it was within plus or minus 2, I guess. That percentage doesn’t represent the number of people behind Suu. I don't remember exact number of voters, but roughly it was around 60 percent for NLD and other democratic parties and around 40 percent for the NUP (former BSPP of U Ne Win).
The contests were very tight at that time in some areas and NLD won just by a margin; about 2000 margin in Thingangyun 1 where voter registration was tens of thousands and our beloved U Tin Maung U who died heroically in the Insein prison at the dawn of 1991 won over his elder brother in Kayan area only by a few margin. The same things were the results of Dagon, Mingalardon, etc.
I have to say more than this, but I will refrain saying so this time. I May comment next time. However, I would say that Bogyoke Aung San is still my most respected person in modern Myanmar history. Thank you.

Thanks for your comment. I like that. We have to practise democracy right from here until to our dying day. People should have their right to say and judge. That's all about democracy and rights which we are fighting for since decades ago until today.
May I make an adjustment to your accounting (382 out of 485) something like 392 out of 485 seats that NLD won in the 1990 elections to be precise.
Yes, of course Daw Suu has garnered more than 82% of the support of today's population in Burma and Than Shwe has only his henchmen and cronies to back him up, and that is only with their eyes wide SHUT also, if I may say so. If you have anything to say to the contrary you are certainly welcome.
Just remember mate, nobody in his right mind and senses would not back the militarists since decades ago until today.
However, I have to take my hat off to you for mentioning Bogyoke Aung San as your icon and revered person like me.
And let me add Daw Suu also is my most beloved and respected person other than any person alive today for her sacrifice and love of our country. I welcome your comments if you have any in this regard.
Anyway, please do attempt to give your further comments over my piece at your earliest possible if you please. I like people who give comments and remarks over my pieces so that I will know my strengths and weaknesses before I go any further with my struggles to topple military rule in Burma. These will stand me in good stead on the long run as I believed.
Again thank you Ko Nyunt Shwe for your comment and remark.
