Sculpting the Lady

_ reported by Jim Mcnalis

The Lady is an inspiration and a real challenge to the artist who attempts to capture all the dimensions of this multi-faceted and courageous woman. All the hours of concentration required to create such a sculpture put me in the presence of very good company.

Just as I discovered when I created the portrait bust of Daw Suu Kyi in 1999, working on a sculpture of Daw Suu Kyi is a challenge and a privilege.

Note: The above pictures show the relief sculpture at a very early stage of the process. What they show is a work that is incomplete and underway. Many hours remain in the process, requiring alterations, detailing and refining before the piece is completed.
