A Remarkable day in London: 19.06.2007
_ Dr.Win Naing N.L.D,L.A,( U.K Branch ) It was a very lovely weather, fine bright and shiny morning, with clear blue sky which we usually have very little chance to see in Britain. So we were very encouraged for the day’s events we were to perform on that day. We had an appointment at the Burma Desk of Foreign & Commonwealth Office at 11 Am. We met the Burma Desk officer, Miss Penny Curtis, and delivered our signed petition of more than 1000 signatories of ''Friends Of Burma'' from the U.K. We also delivered an open letter to the Foreign Secretary Ms Margaret Mary Beckett, mentioning the current situation of the people’s sufferings, the regime’s plan of leading to ''Thuggish Democracy'' with sham national convention, and requested utmost continued support for our movement. Miss Penny Curtis discussed the letter in detail and gave some advices. At 12:00 noon, a crowd of about 150 people gathered at the 10 Dawning Street and started demonstration for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners. The crowd consisted of N.L.D-L.A (U.K Branch), B.D.M.A (U.K), BMA, Women of Burma (U.K), and ethnic nationalities and Friends of Burma. Demonstration finished at 1300 and the crowd marched towards the Green Park with slogans for the release of Daw Suu and all political prisoners and Freedom of Burma. Lunch was provided by B.D.M.A (U.K), soft drinks from N.LD-L.A and Burmese Muslim Association. All of the participants had an enjoyable gathering in the Green Park. Then the crowd marched again towards Burmese Embassy with the slogans where the security police stood guard. The demonstration started with prayers from Sayadaw U Uttara of the Sasana Ramsi Vihara and followed by reading of the statements from opposition organisations, speech by the guest speakers and then the revolutionary slogans and finished at 1500. The evening event included with prayer ceremony at Sasana Ramsi Vihara, and the BRITISH PARLIAMENT Reception by the All Party Parliamentary Group APPG. Sasana Ramsi praying was led by Sayadaw U Uttara with Women Of Burma group offering Burmese traditional food (Monthingar). Parliamentary reception was organized by APPG; and MP John Barcow opened the reception with the speech in honour of Daw Suu, and then Foreigh Minister Ian Mc Carthney spoke about his views on the notorious Burmese military regime, and the breached rights of the people, and he promised to give the continuing support until we achieve our aim of freedom and democracy under the leadership of our leader Daw Suu. Then the famous British Actor Lean Gould did a performance as Daw Suu which she played in ''The Lady Of Burma'' which was extremely touching and all of the participants were left in tears. The participants were served with very authentic Burmese food, such fried tofu, bayagyaw, fried banana spring roll, etc. The N.C.U.B. delegation also attended and greeted the MPs. This very day of Daw Suu's 62nd Birthday has been very remarkable, encouraging, historical, constructive, and was done in solidarity, for the movement of our nation towards freedom and democracy. What we all have in our spirit is “we all need to do more with our best efforts, in any way we can, for our cause to be free from the world's most brutal regime, in the very near future”.
