HUMAN-RIGHTS LITERATURE AWARD

 

The Award

  • The award is for Burmese articles only.

  • Prizes for one best article & one best poem in one year period (starting from 8th August to next year's 8th August)

  • Only one prize for all kinds of articles (translations/news-reports/critiques/satires/humours/true-stories/....) published in BURMA DIGEST in one years

  • Only one prize for all poems published in BURMA DIGEST in one years

The Aim

  • the aim is to motivate amateur writers in Burmese language to become more involved in human-rights promotion activities

Considering for the Award

  • articles will be considered on both their literary talent and their human-rights inspiration

Selection Process

  • Associate editor of BURMA DIGEST Burmese section will nominate two articles and two poems every month from all the articles and poems published in BURMA DIGEST during that month

  • the list of primary nominations will be regularly described on this webpage, see below

  • multiple articles/poems written by an author can be nominated in the primary nomination list

  • articles/poems written by BURMA DIGEST team members are automatically excluded from nomination

  • articles/poems written by professional writers are also excluded from nomination

  • members of BURMA DIGEST team can make suggestions and objections to the associate editor of Burmese section concerning his choices for primary nomination

  • at the end of one year period, out of the nominated 24  articles & 24 poems, 5 finalists articles and 5 finalist poems will be chosen

  • BURMA DIGEST will ask for the judgement of a panel of widely-respected academics for choosing these finalists

  • multiple articles/poems written by a particular author cannot chosen in the final selection; "one author, one article only" in final selection

  • from the 5 finalists articles and 5 finalists poems, one prize-winner each will be chosen by voting of BURMA DIGEST team

  • every member of BURMA DIGEST team will equally have two votes (one vote for article and one vote for poem)

  • the finalist article and poem which get the most votes will be the WINNERs!

The Prize

  • the prize for the best article will be 250 US$

  • the prize for the best poem will be at least 150 US$

  • the prize money may be increased depending on the financial condition of the prize-fund
