Education Discussions for Students from Burma

For Sale: Rangoon University

Burmese government put Rangoon University (main) campus for sale........I think its buildings and environment should not be put for sale. It is regarded as sacred........It is also a symbol of Burmese nationalism, independence and prestige. We have nostalgia for it too and this will be too much for us to bear.

Universities in Ruins

I also love the Rangoon Arts & Sciences University (RASU), Innya lake and Ah-di-pa-di Road. But now the government never upgrades these estates and they never maintain the things in university campuses.........there are piles of rubbish near the theatres, classrooms and all the University student hostels......

All Ethnic International Open University

To join AEIOU

Any body who is between age 20 and thirty be he/she be a refugee, Internally Displaced Persons or any marginalized youths irrespective of race, religion, color or creed can join this Programme, provided he passed the Matriculation (entrance) examinations..............

Scholarships for Burmese Students

1. Scolarships based on nationality, citizenship, faith, or heritage or a cause: Some scholarships are handed out from donor agencies to recipient government employees: educators working for public tertiary educations, policy making offices as part of technical and development assistance from donor to recipient country. Not only limited to active government employees, individuals who are admitted to an approved educational institutions can also apply for those scholarships...........

2. Scholarships based on academic merit: These scholarships are not designed to serve the recipient of the scholarship native country but to serve the donor organization country. Competitions are global, it is to be competed among able scholars, candidates in all countries and there is no limit or quota set to a country or nation.................

3. Scholarships from private companies: Competition is global and it is designed to promote that corporation's specific research interest. But some of these schemes fit into first profile and may be limited to particular university, country to help develop the Human Resource Development in countries they operate or making profits.............

For A Better Future

The political conflict, compounded with human rights violations and ethnic cleansing, have forced many to flee for their lives or voluntarily leave their country in search of greener pastures. Among the refugees there are young people who have nothing except their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. A good many of them have completed high school and have the potential to continue their education to learn better ways to help build their society and community. Without traditional support systems and ignored by international aid agencies, youths affected by armed conflicts are unable to study in the established institutes of higher education for various reasons. The AEIOU (All Ethnic International Open University ) Programme, in cooperation with Chiang Mai University, is a small attempt to fill in this gap...........

To Improve Local Education in Burma

It is costly and difficult to get admission to good overseas colleges. The ideal situation will be college education locally and graduate/professional degree in overseas so that it will indirectly promote good reputation of college education in Burma.

If quality undergraduate education can be provided inside Burma locally, people can save resources for their graduate education; and post-graduate scholarships are easier to get than undergraduate scholarships and so it will be good for Burma.

We are ready to help you

The AEIOU programme is operated as an open university and the students are required to work all year round. In the first semester, all the students come to the campus to study and have contact with the teachers. In the second semester, they are required to go back to their respective communities to work and serve there; to see that they are not cut off from their roots..............

 Education Discussions by Students

Where do you want to work and who do you want to be will ask for different sets of skills. But major requirements are simple: ability to speak, write and read English and ability to think critically, rationally, logically and sometimes innovatively...............

Expectations of AEIOU

Attendance, Punctuality, Self-Discipline, Attitude, Cooperation, Flexibility, Course Grade..............

Graduate School tutorial for Burmese Students

A graduate education is defined as the education you obtained after 4 years college degree. In some parts of the world, graduate studies mean studying after college degree and below Master degree. A post graduate student is a student who is pursuing PhD after his Masters.

However, in this article both graduate and post graduate terms were used interchangeably. Graduate schools are becoming more and more important in all the universities around the world and graduate education becomes an entry level education in some professions of science and technology especially in engineering firms and R&D labs...................
