Attempted Genocide in Burma

......... one must also understand that there are various other offences described in the Genocide Convention that are justiciable at the International Court of Justice. Most interesting is the crime of attempted genocide which does not require that a genocide have occurred but rather that a "substantial step" has been taken in that direction ..........

  • Interview with a Free Burma Ranger

......... Much of what is happening is difficult to capture with photos, video and reports. It is generally a slow and insidious strangulation of the population rather than an all out effort to crush them. While the campaign of control against the ethnic villagers and IDPs meets the UN definition of genocide, it is not the kind of genocide that occurred in Cambodia or Nazi Germany...........

  • Interview with Journalist Evan Williams

............I believe the intent, acts and result of military actions result on genocide-like impact on the people............I think what is happening in Burma in the unreported valleys is a crime against humanity that requires urgent international intervention and action to save people’s lives and as such it compares with all other such attacks on civilian groups anywhere..............

......... In the case of Burma, although it ratified the Convention in 1956, the current military regime has adopted Genocide as a terror against the ethnic national groups of Karen, Karenni and Shan people, etc. and the evidences were well-documented in the resources of...........

......... One of the tactics of this ruthless regime includes military offensives where hundreds of villages are destroyed and burned so that people are forced to flee to the jungle or cross the border; they cannot return to their homes. If they do, they face arrest and torture being accused of aiding or joining the rebels during their period of hiding.] The territory is conveniently called ‘cleaned’ of the rebel forces ............

  • Just A Bad Dream? _ Feraya

......... Burmese soldiers have to marry Shan women to "burmanize" them...........This way they want the soldiers to oppress the Shan people until they are all gone-killed, run away, burmanized............The weapons they use are not only guns and bombs but also rape, torture, drugs, Aids, prostitution, armed robbery, forced relocation , slavery.........

  • Real People’s Desire: Freedom from Persecution _ Dr. Tayza

......... a representative from Chin Human Rights Organization spoke to the meeting about human rights situations in Chin State. He said there is no doubt about military regime’s intention of destroying identity, culture and tradition of non-Burman minorities............a Chin lady delegate, who is currently based in India, talked about forced labour in Chin State of Burma............an ethnic lady from Kachin National Organization explained about the problem of human trafficking, exploitation of natural resources and environmental destruction in Kachin State.............

  • Junta’s Ethnic Cleansing in Eight Stages _ Dr. San Oo Aung

_ According to President of Genocide Watch, Gregory Stanton, genocide develops in eight stages that are "predictable but not inexorable". The FBI has found somewhat similar stages for hate groups. And we can see that SPDC junta's ethnic cleansing is going along the same lines..............
